It belongs to the Asteraceae family — the same as ragweed, wormwood and marigold. That's exactly why, in case of allergy to one of these, a cross-reaction is possible.

Humans lack the enzyme needed to break down the β(2→1) bond in fructooligosaccharides — which is why they pass through the small intestine intact.
